Phenylpiracetam is a medication and nootropic which has been marketed popularly as a diet supplement, purported to have cognition and memory enhancing effects. Like other racetams, it acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the AMPA receptors, and also the mGlu receptors. The 4(S) and 4(R) isomers are both found to be active as nootropic drugs, with the 4(R) isomer showing increased potency over the 4(S) isomer.
